Part-time Lineworker Recruiter Job Summary 

Blue Ridge Power Agency seeks an individual to serve as a part-time lineworker recruiter. The Agency is a membership association with 9 electric distribution utility members. Lineworkers are the backbone of these utilities, and keeping the utility linework positions filled is an ongoing need. A part-time recruiter will help identify and recruit key staff. In addition to lineworkers, individual may be asked to deliver educational presentations and to promote Blue Ridge members to electrical engineering and other college or high school clubs.    

Our ideal applicant is a former lineworker with strong relationship-building skills and excellent interpersonal communication skills. This is a new role at Blue Ridge. The ideal applicant will take the lead in developing the role, ensuring it meets the needs of Blue Ridge members, and setting it up for success. We envision an initial three-year contract with potential to extend the role if it proves valuable.  

Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Meet with Blue Ridge members and understand their staffing needs 
  • Visit local lineworker colleges and college electrical engineering clubs; promote Blue Ridge members as potential employers 
  • Conduct preliminary discussions with potential recruits to gauge interest, personality, and salary requirements 
  • Identify individuals who would be a good fit for Blue Ridge members, keep in contact with them, and ensure they are aware of openings in Blue Ridge member utilities 
  • Provide feedback to Blue Ridge members on potential applicants 
  • Develop and deliver educational sessions as needed 
  • Attend Blue Ridge meetings and conferences 
  • Remain up to date on trends in lineworker training and staffing 

Requirements and Qualifications  

  • Preferred current or former journeyman lineworker from a Blue Ridge member community 
  • Self-starter able to work with little direct supervision 
  • Ability to understand and explain job requirements for linework roles 
  • Anticipate 10 hours per week average; schedule will vary with conferences and meetings 
  • Strong organizational and communications skills  
  • Reliable, tenacious, and resourceful 
  • Proven strong ability to build a solid network  
  • Provide own transportation and phone
