Administrative Assistant/Analyst Job Summary
Blue Ridge Power Agency seeks an individual to serve as an administrative assistant/analyst. The Agency, headquartered in Salem, Virginia, is a membership association with 9 electric distribution utility members. Our current administrative assistant/secretary is retiring after 15 successful years with the organization. We seek someone who can provide the same robust level of support while also working with Microsoft Excel to analyze data.
Our ideal applicant has 3-5 years experience providing secretarial support, with strong Microsoft Office skills and an independent work ethic. This applicant has also created formulas and pivot tables in Microsoft Excel, and nerds out over a bar chart that both looks good and conveys something interesting. The focus on data analysis is a new one for us and we are excited to see what a talented person can do in this role.
While most work can be performed in Salem, we seek someone who can attend meetings and conferences around Virginia as necessary. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, have excellent oral and written communication skills, and has experience managing complex company finances.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare invoices, spreadsheets, expense reports, and rosters
- Create and maintain filing systems, both electronic and physical
- Perform bookkeeping; process payroll and payables; deposit checks
- Prepare and print documents for Blue Ridge meetings
- Order branded materials; package and ship to Blue Ridge partners
- Gather quotes for conference locations, summarize and recommend venues
- Work with conference host to ensure a smooth visit
- Attend Blue Ridge meetings and conferences; write up minutes from meetings
- Gather data, classify and analyze; work with GM to develop reports
Requirements and Qualifications
- Trustworthy self-starter able to work with little direct supervision
- Solid understanding of financial paperwork and basic accounting concepts
- Reliable, tenacious, and resourceful; able to take direction and to communicate needs
- Willingness to learn new skills
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Outlook, Teams, and Word
- Provide own transportation and phone
- 40 hours a week; schedule will vary with conferences and meetings
- Able to work in Salem and around Virginia as needed
- High school diploma or GED
- 1-3 years of experience minimum, more preferred
- Experience with Sage, Adobe Sign, and GoDaddy preferred but not required
